McCain, Palin blunder

Published: Wednesday, September 3, 2008 1:19 PM EDT
To the editor:

The new “hybrid” Republicans (hybrids: that’s what I call people like Bush, McCain, Fox-News and their political operatives) never cease to amaze me with their hypocrisy.

For example, on the one hand they criticize the judgment and experience of a young Senator Barack Obama while their own 72-year-old candidate (stricken with Melanoma) selects a vice presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, with less than two years experience as governor of a state with a population about the size of Charlotte.

I’m an Independent, but it seems to me that Sarah Palin is Dan Quayle in a skirt – unqualified.

McCain’s actions are reckless judgment. He is as reckless today as he was in the 1960s when he was known as a “hot-dogger” and crashed four of America’s premier fighter jets.

The Actuary Tables of Social Security indicate that a male age 72 will die within three years. If “We, the people …” factor in a 72-year-old with Melanoma, the timeline shrinks. Therefore, to burden the country with a sure bet to install a novice as president is unconscionable. That’s neither good stewardship nor “putting country first.”

Moreover, to accept his offer to be the vice president – surely Ms. Palin knows her shortcomings in experience to serve in that critical position – indicates how shallow and narcissistic Ms. Palin is.

" I would rather have Senator McCain and Gov Palin elected given all of their shortcomings than the ultra liberal Senators Obama and Biden. Gov Palin has actually held executive level experience (20,000 plus state employees and $10 Billion budget). Senator Obama can't claim anything of the sort. Senator Obama says he has bi-partisan accomplishments. Since he has been in the US Senate he has voted down the party lines 97% of the time. Not exactly "change" and bi-partisanship. His "hope" message is that he hopes the American public doesn't see through him and his false promises. "

" The Republicans are saying that Washington is broken, that it is corrupt, that wasteful spending is occurring, that taxes are too high, that fraud is rampant, and that corporate lobbyist's are running up and down K Street -taking buckets of monies from the Treasury Dept. Some of these Republican Senators and Representative are practicing queers, and/or engage in other dalliances of a sexual nature (while claiming they have a monopoly on morally, and that Jesus is Mr. Republican).
Instead, we have seen them set a very low personal standard for Washington, and consistently achieve it. Some of them have an IQ about the size of their shoe. It amazes me that the sperm that created these loud-mouth, self-righteous, Republicans in Congress beat out 40, 000,000,000 other sperm to the mother's egg during conception. (How one, single, flawed, little wiggly-squiggly made it to the egg first, is beyond me). I must say that the GOP wheels at the Convention are turning, but the hamster is definitely dead.
In closing, I agree that most of the criticisms about Washington being broke and needs fixing are true. But I asks, "Who, but Republicans, have been in charge of Washington since 1994? " (And I mean all three houses of our government have been under their watch, The House, The Senate, and The Executive, including I might add, the Judicial (who incidentally, introduced to the American people the law of "Imminent Domain" i.e., the ability to confiscate your house in the name of big Republican government.
I also asks, "Who do they think they are kidding when they co-op the term "change" and "reform" suggesting they are the true agent of change, not their opponents, and that we ought to send McCain there to do it when he has been part of the problem for 26-years?"
Give me a break! Neither Democrat or Republican will introduce change, except more of the same, and bigger. I was born at night, but not last night. "

" Facts that have recently come out about Palin:
1. Alaska's TOTAL population (as of 2006) was 670,053. That's smaller than the city of Indianapolis, and she’s been governor for less than two years. Prior to that, she was mayor of Wasilla (pop. Less than 9,000). Have you seen the video of Karl Rove dissing Virginia governor Tim Kaine as a possible Obama VP pick, stating that he lacked sufficient experience and his selection would be “an intensely political choice” that put getting elected ahead of the welfare of the country? (It’s all over the web!) By current Palin “experience” standards (which are VERY low), Kaine blows her out of the water and Rove’s blatant hypocrisy outs Palin for precisely what she is: an “intensely political choice.” 2. Garnered HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF PORK-BARRELL TAXPAYER DOLLARS FOR ALASKA PROJECTS, yet runs on a supposedly “reformist” platform while McCain has been stressing his “anti-pork” values as a major point in his favor. LIED about the BRIDGE TO NOWHERE. 3. Was caught on video, less than a month ago, wondering: “WHAT IS IT, EXACTLY, THAT THE VP DOES EVERY DAY?”
4. Forced all of the top-level city employees to resign when she became mayor because they weren't in lock-step with her views. Was nearly RECALLED AS MAYOR for these shenanigans. Is currently under investigation for ABUSE OF EXECUTIVE POWER as Governor of Alaska (the "troopergate" scandal).
5. Tried to fire the Wasilla librarian because she refused to pull books Palin deemed "unacceptable" from the shelves (she favors CENSORSHIP).
6. Supports abstinence-only education in lieu of more comprehensive sex education (despite the fact that the former is a glaring failure in her own family).
7. Has ZERO interest in preserving the environment. Supports the brutal practice of using planes and guns to hunt wolves and bears, in the interests of rich non-Alaskan trophy hunters. Tried to get polar bears de-listed from the endangered species record because they interfere with her oil-drilling obsession. Denies overwhelming scientific evidence that global warming is mostly manmade.
8. Is 100% anti-Choice, even in cases of rape and incest.
9. Is against stem-cell research.
10. Believes the Iraq war is "a task that is from God."
11. Raised taxes in Wasilla when it suited her (some of the $$ went for a new hockey rink) and left the town MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN DEBT. (P.S.: Obama's tax plan would INCREASE the post-taxes INCOME of Americans who earn less than $200,000/year (i.e. MOST of us) by 5% (as opposed to McCain's 3%). See factcheck.org. for details.)
12. Enjoyed crass jokes with radio shock jocks at the expense of a female political opponent who had suffered from cancer.
13. Keeps decrying press attention on her children, yet keeps putting them front-and-center stage (esp. the pregnant unwed daughter and her boyfriend and Trig, the child with Downs).
14. Is married to a man who has ties with the Alaska Independence Party, which favors the state's SECESSION from the United States.
15. Is unabashedly pro-big oil (a la Cheney, Bush, etc.).
16. Supports teaching Creationism in science classes.
17. Is a Dominionist with a far-right Christian philosophy. 18. McCain’s camp is currently HIDING HER FROM THE PRESS, REFUSING TO LET HER DO UNSCRIPTED INTERVIEWS BY HERSELF. This speaks volumes about their level of confidence in her current knowledge about the major issues facing the country at large. Apparently, the woman has charisma and can read a teleprompter, taking the same sort of cheap shots at Obama that he’s been taking from others for the past 19 months, but she can’t speak confidently FOR HERSELF about issues that matter to the country. Just what we need for VP – a PARROT.
...and it's been less than a week. If this is what people want a heartbeat (or a hard sneeze) away from the Oval Office, then our country is truly in deep trouble. It's both sad and deeply frightening to think that our standards have fallen so very low. "

" Navel, Gov Palins low experience level is more than what can be said about Obamas. Why is everyone looking at her wrongs more than her rights? Clinton did the Monica thing and did not get impeeched. Leave her family out of the equation here. So what if she supports drilling for oil. If it will lower the cost for the blue collar worker instead of making Big Oil and foreign oil companies richer, then I support her 100%. As far as I am concerned and the last time I read up on it, oil drilling in our territory is no different than drilling anywhere else but are you still concerned over the environment now? The environment is going to continue to be neglected not only by oil companies, but every day somebody does something to harm the environment such as throwing trash on the side of the road or dumping their used engine oil or antifreeze in a ditch or storm drain but that is not as bad as drilling for oil. Not everybody in the world is going to agree with your opinions over what is right or wrong, its been that way forever. People will say and do whatever it takes to get into the white house and once they get there, nothing happens and then the people who elected them for that position sits and moans because everything is jacked up. I will remain anti-liberal and continue to support the NRA and hunt for animals not only as a sport but for food also. "

" To Navel - Since you are so interested in weighing Palin's issues, why don't we take a look at Obama's and Biden's.

Obama:

1. He has requested earmarks (aka pork barrel spending) at the rate of 1 MILLION DOLLARS PER DAY that he has been in the Senate.

2. Obama supports ABORTION and even supports INFANTICIDE (which means if the Dr botches the abortion and the baby lives, the Dr is legally authorized to murder the child.) How can ANYONE who calls themselves a Christian support such a view????

3. In his interview at the Saddleback Church recently he stated that the ABORTION issue is "ABOVE HIS PAY GRADE". I've got news for Obama. When you're the President of the United States the buck stops with you. You can't pass or vote "Present". More on that later......

4. Obama spent 20 years in a church that preaches Black Liberation theology. I'm sure you remember Rev Wright and his "G______ America" quote. Just what we need.... a closet Black Panther symphasizer.

5. Obama has lengthy ties to William Ayers. For those who need a history lesson he is a terrorist who attacked the US Govt in the 70's. He was given a pass by some liberal left wing judge due to a legal technicality.

6. Obama has admitted to extensive drug use in his late teens and early 20's. Why didn't the MSM question this as much as Todd Palin's DUI that happened 22 years ago???

7. Obama can't remember where he lived while he attended Columbia University. Interesting??? Also over 400 members of his graduating class at Columbia were interviewed and not 1 recalled Obama despite his supposed academic brilliance. Hmmmm???? Also he refuses to answer any further questions about this time in his life. People don't hide their past unless there is something there they don't want us to see.

8. While running for the IL state senate he had lawyers who used technicalities to keep qualified candidates off of the ballot so they could not run against him. Hmmm.....a real man for the people......as long as the people vote for him.

9. While in the IL state senate he voted
"present" over 130 times. In that state the senators can vote "yes", "no", or "present". By voting present he was refusing to take a stand on that particular votes. I GUESS THOSE ISSUES MUST HAVE BEEN HIS PAY GRADE AS WELL.

10. Obama has voted the party line with fellow Democrats for 97% of the votes in the US Senate. Not exactly the voting record of someone who is bringing change by reaching across the aisle that he claims he's going to do.....NOW.

11. Obama has been absent for 64% of the votes this year in the Senate. If I were a citizen in IL I would want a refund on his salary this year.

12. Obama has the most liberal voting record of all in the US Senate. That's saying something when you're in the company of Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy. And that something is NOT GOOD.

13. Obama said in his speech (aka coronation) that he is going to reduce taxes for 95% of the people in this country. He is also going to improve education, provide healthcare for everyone, invest in alternative energy, and build up the military. I'm no math whiz, but his numbers just don't cut it. I'm betting that he's going to gut the military (just like Clinton and Carter) and raise taxes on all of us. If he sticks to just raising taxes on businesses and the rich, what do you think they're going to do? Thats right, invest less in the US and move their money to foreign markets. Which means less jobs, lower wages, and less opportunities. Wake up America!

14. Obama has now admitted that the surge in Iraq was a success. If he had his way we would have left Iraq in DEFEAT to Muslim extremists. The fragile democracy would have crumbled and the terrorists would have a solid base to operate from. Obama likes to say his strength for running for the presidency is his judgement. In these parts we refer to that kind of judgement as being P*** POOR. He can't hold a candle to McCain.

Biden:

1. He was caught plagarizing during his presidential run in 1988. That could be viewed as an "honest" mistake.

2. He has the third most liberal record for voting in the US Senate. Hmmm....the FIRST and THIRD most liberal voting records??? I think if they win the election their current "centrist" speeches will turn markedly to the left.

3. Biden has been less than "honest" in his business dealings. He owes a CPA in MD about $15,000 for services rendered and now refuses to pay. He requested the CPA to perform a financial review for his presidential campaign and since he didn't win he figures he doesn't owe the guy. Interesting logic. Also, he owes an aviation leasing company $150,000 for aircraft use during his campaign run. He refuses to pay.....same logic applies....

4. Biden's brother and son are involved as lobbyists for a company that lobbied Biden. Biden voted for the issue the company had requested. Surely all of that must have been a coincidence.

Navel, you state that its been less than a week since Palin's nomination. So why are you bashing her for not accepting interview requests just yet. The MSM have been anything but open to her. Why would the McCain campaign allow them to attack her so quickly. Sounds like a smart decision to me. Just to update you, she has agreed to an interview with Charles Gibson with ABC.

And Navel I agree with you that its a shame our standards have fallen so low. Its a shame that a junior senator with NO executive experience and NO military experience is so close to be the Commander in Chief. That shows how naive the electorate really is today. "

wow wrote on Sep 8, 2008 12:15 PM:

" rt, excellent choice of words. if i were a member of our armed forces, i would not want a junior senator who does not understand combat, refuses to render the pledge of allegience and acknowledge the very flag for which brave men and women die for to serve as the commander in chief. if obama is the answer....then it is a very stupid question... I thought Obama was a smart man, Harvard graduate. What a mistake he made. It will cost him the election. I predict a landslide victory in McCain's favor,..three months ago I thought it was going to be the other way around,..even with the possibility of Obama-Hillary ticket. I mean seriously come on: it is 2008. Honestly if a women wants an abortion she will get it. Second have you guys ever heard of seperation of church and state. It does not matter what any of the four, Palin, McCain, Biden or Obama is. It doesn't matter how often they go to church or what they do at church. Church is not part of the government therefore it should not be a deciding factor in an election. Who smoked pot or who was a party child at 20 is also not an important issue. How many of you can honestly say you never made a mistake as a high school/college student. Obviously they are not perfect poster candidates that would be just crazy but seriously lets focus on the real issues. How are you going to pay for your child's college education? How is will the economy get fixed? How much longer will we occupy Iraq? These are the things you guys should be looking at not the petty stuff. "

All four of these losers should have been weeded-out by the people during the primarys. Are these four the best that we can scrape together to lead the most powerful country on earth? Obama, no experience. McCain, too much experience, Biden, same as McCain, Pallin, who? Come on folks, McCain and Biden have been in DC a long time. IF THEY WERE REALLY GOING TO TRY TO BETTER THE COUNTRY WHY HAVE THEY NOT TRIED TO DO IT ALREADY. They are just going to keep right on keepin on. Obama and Pallin, how did they rise to the top of the cream, and how many deals did they make to get there? Yep, we don't have much to be thankful for at this point, just like the last few elections. None of them are talking real issues, how about HEATHCARE COSTS, SOCIAL SECURITY, RETIREMENT INVESTMENTS GOING DOWN IN FLAMES ON WALL STREET, THE NATIONS INFASTRUCTURE FALLING APART, NATIONAL DEBT. Little things like that, maybe, somebody needs to seriously address, don't you think? The American people seem to view elections like a football game. It doesn't matter who is the best, as long as MY TEAM WINS. Heck, most people don't even know what the parties stand for, but they blindly throw their vote at "their team". At this point, Palin looks the best of all of them to me, just because she is not a Washington insider. AT the very worst, she will either be a puppet for the same string-pullers that really run the country now, or maybe she will have a whole new set of "string-pullers", but at this point, does it even matter anymore? Can anybody really take control back from the special interests, or is it too late? Look back in history, and see just how many "superpowers" and empires have survived. Greed took them all down.
